Privacy
Red Clay Septic & Well is a set of reading pages on septic tanks, wells and city water around Durham, built so that reading them asks almost nothing of the reader.
What this site does not collect
There are no forms, sign-ups, comment boxes, newsletters or accounts here, so there is nowhere to type a name, address or email. This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising, analytics or tracking scripts of its own. Nothing about a visit is sold, traded or used to build a profile.
Server logs
The company that hosts the site keeps the standard records any web server keeps: the page requested, the time, the visitor's IP address, the browser's user-agent string and the referring page. Those logs exist to deliver pages, spot errors and block abuse. They are not combined with any other data by this site.
Videos
Some pages show a short video from YouTube. Until someone clicks play, the page loads only the video's thumbnail picture, fetched from YouTube's image server; no YouTube player, script or cookie is loaded at that point. After a click, the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed address, and from then on YouTube's own privacy policy covers what happens in that player. Skipping the video keeps YouTube out of the visit apart from that thumbnail request.
Links to other sites
Pages link out to government agencies, universities and standards bodies, and some well pages link to two equipment stores owned by the same people as this site (see the about page). Following any of those links leaves this site, and the other site's privacy terms apply there.
Changes
If the way this site works changes, for example by adding a feature that handles visitor data, this page will be updated first. It was last reviewed in October 2026. The terms of use cover the rest of the ground rules.
